HOUSTON — A Houston Methodist Research Institute employee was stabbed Monday morning in a parking garage in the Texas Medical Center, and the Houston Police Department is investigating. The attack occurred just after 7 a.m. at a garage near the intersection of Fannin Street and Dryden Road.

The victim, a woman, was sitting in her car when a man approached and attacked her, stabbing her multiple times. Several hospital employees witnessed the attack and rendered first aid before the Houston Fire Department and police arrived.

The woman was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment, where she received stitches. She was later released from the emergency room and is now home and resting.

Part of the Houston Methodist campus was temporarily locked down following the incident, and security patrols in the area were increased. Hospital officials later said there was no indication of an active or imminent threat to the campus.

"There is no indication of an ongoing threat to the campus," Houston Methodist Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer Roberta L. Schwartz said, adding that there will be an increased security presence as a precaution.

Investigators do not believe the stabbing was a planned attack. Police are searching for a suspect described as a Black man with a beard wearing a red or orange hoodie, black pants and black sneakers. Initial descriptions from investigators identified the suspect only as a man wearing a red hoodie.

A photo circulating online shows a possible suspect, but Houston police said they cannot confirm it. Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Houston Police Department at 713-308-8800.
