Farragut Mayor Ron Williams sent a letter in late March to Knox County Sheriff Spangler requesting a proposal for two additional full-time patrols within the town limits. The request followed the closure of the Knox County Sheriff's Office Parkside Drive precinct in October 2025.

Farragut does not operate its own police department and relies on the sheriff's office for law enforcement services. The sheriff's office had moved its Farragut precinct from Town Hall to Parkside Drive in 2016.

The letter expressed concern about a lack of communication with the sheriff's office. Williams wrote: "My concern is the need to continue to have a physical presence for the KCSO in the Town of Farragut, especially in the Turkey Creek area, as a deterrent for criminal activity that happens in large retail shopping areas."

Williams also described his attempts to reach the previous sheriff. "He would not return my phone calls. Whenever I made an appointment to see him, he wouldn't show up," Williams said.

The sheriff's office plans to open a new precinct in Cedar Bluff to serve all of West Knox County. The proposed Cedar Bluff location would be about five miles from the former Parkside Drive precinct.

Sheriff's office spokesperson Kimberly Glenn said coverage of the area has not been reduced. "The patrol zones have not changed, and having a precinct or lack of doesn't change their responsibilities," Glenn said. She added that deputies continue to respond to calls for service in the area, noting: "Knox County Sheriff's Office Deputies do a fantastic job of responding to calls for service."

Glenn also addressed the planned new facility. "He is, however, eager to get the new West Knox County precinct open; it is conveniently located at Cedar Bluff to serve all of West Knox County," she said.

Knox County Sheriff-elect Brent Gibson said he intended to engage with town officials on the matter. "I know the problems out there, and I don't know the correct answer to those solutions yet. We're going to communicate with the leadership in Farragut to make sure we're addressing the issues," Gibson said.
