WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania proposed a bill to require voter ID for federal elections without provisions regarding mail-in ballots or citizenship. "I will vote for a clean voter ID bill," Fetterman said.

The proposed clean voter ID bill would accept military IDs and other forms of identification for voting in federal elections. The legislation differs from other voter ID proposals by focusing solely on identification requirements without additional provisions.

Polling shows that 80% of Americans support basic voter ID requirements for federal elections.

The filibuster rule in the United States Senate requires 60 votes to overcome, which would apply to any voter ID legislation that comes to the Senate floor.
