BUDAPEST — Arsenal beat Atlético Madrid 1-0 in Budapest to reach the Champions League final for the first time in 20 years. Bukayo Saka scored the deciding goal.

The result extended Arsenal's unbeaten run in the competition to 14 matches, surpassing their previous longest of 13 between March 2005 and April 2006. The club last reached the final in 2006 under Arsène Wenger, when Thierry Henry captained the side in a defeat to Barcelona.

"There are moments in the Champions League when somebody has to deliver a magic moment - and he delivered that again," Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said after the win over Atlético Madrid. Arteta's side kept a clean sheet against Atlético, with goalkeeper David Raya behind a back line that has anchored the team's European campaign.

William Saliba misheaded a defensive ball that allowed Atlético a shot on goal, and Gabriel applied pressure to Giuliano Simeone as he shot, causing him to miss.

Arsenal have kept nine clean sheets in 14 matches in Europe this season and have conceded two goals in six knockout games. Across all competitions, the club has recorded 30 clean sheets. Their opponents have averaged an expected goals against figure of 0.84 per game in this season's Champions League.

Arsenal topped the 32-club league phase with eight wins from eight matches before progressing through the knockout rounds to the final. The club will play in a Champions League final for the first time in two decades.

"If I had to point out one team that would be capable of bringing it home because of that capacity, it is actually Arsenal. Tell me one sport you can win without a proper defence. I don't think it exists," former midfielder Clarence Seedorf said.
