INDIANAPOLIS — The Dallas Wings opened the 2026 WNBA season with a 107-104 win over the Indiana Fever on May 9 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Arike Ogunbowale scored 22 points, while Paige Bueckers and Odyssey Sims each added 20 in the game broadcast on ABC.

Bueckers, the reigning rookie of the year, also recorded four assists and started alongside Azzi Fudd, who scored the first points of her WNBA career on a corner three in the second quarter. Fudd finished her debut with three points and one steal in 18 minutes off the bench. The matchup placed the past four No. 1 picks in the WNBA draft on the same court: Aliyah Boston (2023), Caitlin Clark (2024), Bueckers (2025) and Fudd (2026).

Dallas shot 59.1% from the field and made 12 of 23 three-point attempts. Indiana shot 51.9% but made just seven of 24 from beyond the arc. It was the first WNBA season opener in which both teams scored more than 100 points.

Sophie Cunningham and Boston hit consecutive three-pointers early in the second quarter to put the Fever ahead before Ogunbowale answered with a three to tie the game at 35. Clark, returning to Indiana's starting lineup in her first WNBA appearance since July 15, 2025, left the bench late in the third quarter and returned wearing a black lower-back wrap. She reentered and scored her 1,000th career point on a layup that tied the game at 80 to close the third quarter.

Clark was not in Indiana's first lineup of the fourth quarter but returned after further treatment. Sims scored a fast-break layup to make it 97-90 with about four minutes left, and Kelsey Mitchell answered with a three-pointer, a free throw and a three-point play to bring the score to 99-97. Bueckers responded with a 20-foot jump shot after the Fever briefly took the lead. Boston missed the second of two free throws, grabbed the rebound and scored to cut the deficit to 101-100, before Indiana committed its second five-second violation of the quarter.

Alanna Smith scored and Sims hit a shot over Clark to make it 105-100 with 36.4 seconds left. Sims made one of two free throws in the final seconds, and Clark missed a 32-foot attempt on the ensuing possession. Indiana fouled Bueckers on the rebound with 1.4 seconds remaining, and she missed both free throws. Mitchell's tying three-point try bounced off the rim at the buzzer.

Mitchell led all scorers with 30 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter. Boston added 23, and Clark finished with 20 points, seven assists and four rebounds while shooting two of nine from three-point range.

Clark, who missed most of the 2025 WNBA season with groin and ankle injuries, spoke after the game. "I feel good, started off a little slow I think just the anxiety of the first game. Felt like I was literally just a couple of buckets away from putting together a really, really good game and getting a win," Clark said.
