U.S. — Nintendo announced that the manufacturer's suggested retail price of the Nintendo Switch 2 will increase from $449.99 to $499.99 in the United States on September 1. The $50 increase represents about an 11 percent rise from the launch price set when the console was released on June 5, 2025.
Nintendo cited "changes in market conditions" and "the global business outlook" that are "expected to extend over the medium to long term" as reasons for the price increase. Memory and storage costs have increased for gaming and tech hardware makers in recent months, and higher-than-normal inflation, the slowing of Moore's Law, tariff-related market shocks, and spiking gas prices have occurred in recent years.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said, "We sincerely apologize for the impact these price revisions may have on our customers and other stakeholders, and we deeply appreciate your understanding." Nintendo also said, "We aim to maintain the momentum for the hardware and see it delivered together with software into the hands of a wide range of consumers."
The company also announced new hardware prices outside the U.S. In Canada the price will increase to $679.99 from $629.99, in Europe to €499.99 from €469.99, and in Japan to ¥59,980 from ¥49,980 effective May 25. Nintendo additionally said it will increase the price of its Nintendo Switch Online subscription in Japan and plans to raise the price in South Korea.
The price changes follow similar moves by competitors. Sony's PlayStation 5 received its second price increase in March, eight months after its first price hike, and Xbox Series consoles received their second price increase in September, five months after an initial price hike. Nintendo raised the price of the original Switch console for the first time last year.
Nintendo reported that 19.86 million Switch 2 units were sold as of the end of March 2026, along with 3.8 million original Switch consoles over the past year. The company sold 48.71 million Switch 2 games and 136.91 million original Switch games over the past 12 months. Overall revenue increased 98.6% over the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026.
For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, Nintendo projects an 11.4% decrease in sales and forecasts 16.5 million Switch 2 units sold. Nintendo wrote that the projected sales "represent a solid level of adoption for Nintendo Switch 2 in its second year after launch."
Nintendo said the console "got off to a good start following its launch in June 2025." The company outlined upcoming software releases, stating, "For Nintendo Switch 2, we plan to release Yoshi and the Mysterious Book in May, Star Fox in June, and Splatoon Raiders in July." Nintendo added, "We intend to work to expand our Nintendo Switch 2 business by continuously introducing new titles while maintaining interest in previously released titles."
