ANDERSON COUNTY, TENN. — Joshua Sykes turned himself in at the Anderson County Detention Facility around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 4, according to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office. Sykes was wanted on several charges, including assault on a first responder, evading arrest, resisting arrest and simple possession.

The charges stem from a traffic stop attempt around 10:59 p.m. on April 30, when deputies tried to stop a car on Oak Ridge Highway at Cedar Hills Drive, according to the sheriff's office.

Sykes fled the traffic stop and dragged a deputy with his vehicle, the sheriff's office said. He then crashed his vehicle in the 1100 block of Laurel Road and fled the scene on foot. He was last seen in the 400 block of Laurel Road.

Before the surrender, the sheriff's office had said Sykes was considered dangerous and should not be approached, and asked members of the public with information to come forward. The sheriff's office issued the warning following the April 30 incident, in which Sykes was accused of dragging a deputy with his vehicle before crashing on Laurel Road and fleeing on foot. Deputies had made the traffic stop attempt on Oak Ridge Highway at Cedar Hills Drive. Sykes faced charges of assault on a first responder and evading arrest, among others, as a result of the incident.

"We appreciate the public's assistance and everyone who shared information related to this case. Thank you for helping us keep our community safe," the Anderson County Sheriff's Office said following the surrender.
