LAS VEGAS — Australian actress Milly Alcock flew from Kyoto to Las Vegas on two hours of sleep to promote her starring role in the DC Studios film Supergirl to a group of movie theater owners. The film is scheduled for release on June 26.

Alcock, 26, had been filming another movie in Kyoto before arriving in Las Vegas. She portrayed Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the Game of Thrones prequel and has worked as an actor in Australia since her teenage years.

Alcock received a request to submit a self-tape audition for the Supergirl project, and a few weeks later was invited to her first screen test. She flew on a 24-hour flight from Sydney to Atlanta for the test.

"I just had like an intuition that this is going to be a very exciting challenge if it goes in my favor," Alcock said. Ten days after the screen test, James Gunn texted Alcock an article in Deadline headlined "'Supergirl': New Woman Of Steel Is 'House Of The Dragon's' Milly Alcock."

A few days after that, she flew on another 24-hour flight to film a cameo role in the film Superman. "This is crazy, what have I done?" Alcock said of her reaction at the time.

Audiences who saw Alcock's 12-second appearance as Supergirl in the Superman movie expressed interest in seeing more of the character. The Supergirl film is directed by Craig Gillespie, who also directed I, Tonya and Cruella, and adapts the Tom King comic series "Supergirl: World of Tomorrow."

Peter Safran, the co-head of DC Studios, described his early vision for the character by referencing Alcock's previous role. "You know the young girl from 'House of the Dragon'? The young queen or princess? That's how I picture it, like a young punk rock girl who is just totally badass and tough," Safran said. "I was like, yeah, that sounds fantastic, and we haven't seen that before."

"It's a really original and unique take on a superhero movie. I think it's just a great movie for audiences. It's not just for superhero fans," Safran said of the upcoming film.
