BRIXTON — The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation after a drive-by shooting on Coldharbour Lane in Brixton in the early hours of Saturday left four people in hospital. Officers were called at 1.14am following reports of a firearm discharge and arrived on the scene within minutes.

A 25-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Three other people, aged 21, 47 and 70, were taken to hospital with injuries assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing.

Officers, including specialist crime officers, provided emergency first aid alongside the London Ambulance Service. Two people were taken to a major trauma centre and two others to a local hospital, with a trauma team from London's air ambulance joining ambulance crews, a London Ambulance Service spokesperson said.

No arrests had been made at the time, and detectives were working to identify those responsible. Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo is leading the investigation.

"We understand how concerning this incident will be for the local community and want to reassure residents that officers are working at pace to identify those responsible," Bhangoo said. "This was an act of indiscriminate violence, and we will work relentlessly to bring the suspects to justice."

Bhangoo said local residents should expect a visible police response in the coming days. "Local residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area over the coming days. If you have any concerns, please speak to officers," he said.

The Met appealed for anyone with information or footage that could assist police to contact 101, or alternatively provide information anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is asked to come forward.
