WASHINGTON D.C. — Amazon is considering rebooting The Apprentice for its streaming service Prime Video, with Donald Trump Jr. under consideration as a possible host, the Wall Street Journal reported. Mike Hopkins began discussing the reboot internally early last year, around the time Donald Trump was sworn in for his second term.

An Amazon spokesperson said a reboot was not in active development, adding that preliminary internal discussions about The Apprentice began after the company acquired MGM in 2022. The spokesperson said any reporting on details of the show or names of potential hosts would be purely speculative.

According to a person familiar with the matter, Donald Trump Jr. learned about his potential new role from the media.

Two years ago, Trump endorsed his daughter Ivanka Trump as his successor on The Apprentice. "The best person to hire would be Ivanka Trump," he said at the time. Asked about his son's possible involvement, Trump said, "He's good. He's got a little charisma going."

The Apprentice debuted in 2004 and featured business contestants competing in tasks such as selling products and negotiating deals, with the ultimate prize being a job within Trump's business empire. The show spawned several spin-offs in the United States and internationally.

Trump hosted the show until 2015, when he left to run for office, and remained involved as an executive producer. Arnold Schwarzenegger became host of The New Celebrity Apprentice in 2017 and left after one season. Trump repeatedly criticized Schwarzenegger on social media.

"With Trump being involved in the show people have a bad taste and don't want to participate as a spectator or as a sponsor or in any other way support the show," Schwarzenegger said of his decision to leave.
