KYIV — Julie Davis, the interim chargé d'affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, will leave her post in June 2026, a spokesperson said. U.S. officials said Davis is resigning for professional reasons rather than over any disagreements with President Trump.

"She is retiring after a distinguished 30-year tenure as a career foreign service officer. She will continue to proudly advance President Trump's policies until she officially departs Kyiv in June 2026 and retires from the Department," State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said.

A senior U.S. official said Davis decided to resign because she did not see a path forward in the State Department consistent with her professional ambitions. The official said reports of disagreements between Davis and Trump were inaccurate. A separate report said her departure came in response to differences she had with the president.

Davis assumed her role as interim chargé d'affaires on May 5, 2025, following the resignation of the previous U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine. She has held the post in Kyiv for almost a year, U.S. officials said. While serving as chargé d'affaires, Davis remained accredited as U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus, a position she has held since 2023.

During Davis's tenure as chargé d'affaires, which began in May 2025, Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner often took the lead in U.S. diplomatic efforts on Ukraine instead of career diplomats. In November 2025, Davis was scheduled to host Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll at the ambassador's residence during his first visit to Kyiv.
