CHICAGO — Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi narrowly lost to Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton in a Democratic primary. Krishnamoorthi's election night watch party was held at a Chicago hotel where attendees paid $22 for a glass of wine and nearly $13 for a bottle of water.
Krishnamoorthi is a five-term member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois. During his campaign, Krishnamoorthi focused on affordability issues. "The cost of living has skyrocketed, opportunity has stalled, and it's affecting every Illinoisan — whether they're 8 years old or 80," Krishnamoorthi said.
Krishnamoorthi's campaign reported raising more than $30 million for his Senate campaign. The cryptocurrency industry's main super PAC, Fairshake, spent funds to oppose Juliana Stratton in support of Krishnamoorthi's campaign.
Stratton's watch party was held at a different Chicago venue than Krishnamoorthi's watch party. Stratton's watch party offered an open bar and free sandwiches and sliders for attendees.
