NEW YORK CITY — Megan Thee Stallion announced she will end her run as Zidler in Moulin Rouge! The Musical on May 1, nearly three weeks earlier than her planned departure on May 17. The rapper and songwriter had been scheduled to remain in the Broadway production through mid-May after making her stage debut in March.

She debuted in the role on March 24 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York City, playing a genderbent version of the character originally portrayed by Jim Broadbent. On March 31, she was taken to the hospital after feeling sick during a performance and returned to the show a couple of days later.

In a post on Instagram announcing her early exit, Megan Thee Stallion described what happened during the performance that led to her hospitalization. "I thought I was gonna faint on stage, I really tried to push through my performance but I just couldn't," she wrote. She also addressed the toll the schedule had taken. "I've been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty, and my body finally said enough. It honestly scared me," she wrote.

In the same post, she thanked the company of the show. "It's been such an honor to be part of thee Moulin Rouge family and I've met so many amazing people in this theater! Y'all work so hard and I have so much respect for the dedication, the stamina, the work ethic, the time and the effort y'all put into the work! I'm so grateful for the cast and crew that made this experience so meaningful," she wrote.
