WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Trump called for the White House Correspondents' Dinner to be rescheduled within 30 days during a "60 Minutes" interview with Norah O'Donnell, one day after a gunman attempted to storm the event at the Washington Hilton. The interview covered the disruption, the suspect's writings, and the moments Secret Service agents removed Trump from the stage.

Cole Allen, a 31-year-old Caltech graduate from Torrance, California, was captured at the scene and is facing federal charges. Shortly before the attack, Allen emailed family members a document officials are calling a manifesto, in which he wrote, "Administration officials, they are targets." He also wrote, "I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes."

Asked about the writings, Trump rejected the characterizations. "Well, I was waiting for you to read that because I knew you would because you're— you're he— you're horrible people. Horrible people. Yeah, he did write that. I'm — I'm not a rapist. I didn't rape anybody," he said. "I'm not a pedophile. Excuse me. Excuse me. I'm not a pedophile."

Secret Service agents surrounded Trump about 10 seconds after loud bangs were heard at the dinner and hustled him off stage about 20 seconds after. Trump said he was not worried during the incident and said he understood life and that the world is a crazy place. He also said he had slowed his own departure from the stage, saying he wanted to see what was happening and was not making it easy for agents.

The annual dinner celebrates the First Amendment and freedom of the press. It was the first Trump had agreed to attend as president. He urged organizers to hold it again soon, saying he did not want to see it canceled. "I hope we're going to do it again. Norah, tell 'em to get it going, and we should do it within 30 days," he said. He added that the event would have more security and bigger perimeter security.
