HOUSTON — A police chase that began in West University Place around 3:44 a.m. ended in a multi-vehicle crash on Del Rio Street on Houston's south side. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded, including Houston police, Bellaire police, West University Place police and Precinct 7 constables.

A Bellaire police SUV struck a gate and a fire hydrant during the incident and was left heavily damaged. An HPD SUV suffered front-end damage, and the suspect's vehicle flipped onto its side.

Two civilian vehicles were caught in the crash. One sustained major damage, and the other had lighter impact. The force of the collision snapped a utility pole in half.

Officers were seen placing a woman in the back of a patrol car at the scene. Crews removed the damaged vehicles, including the Bellaire police SUV, and flipped the suspect's overturned vehicle back upright.

CenterPoint Energy repairs are required before the snapped power pole can be fixed and the area fully reopened. The investigation into what led up to the chase and crash remains ongoing.

The crash involved a total of five vehicles: the suspect's car, two law enforcement SUVs and two civilian vehicles. The Bellaire police SUV was among the vehicles removed from the scene by crews following the crash. West University Place police and Precinct 7 constables were among the agencies that joined Houston and Bellaire officers at the scene on Del Rio Street. The chase originated in West University Place before moving into Houston's south side, where the crash occurred. No information on injuries has been confirmed as part of the ongoing investigation.
