YORK, MAINE — Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner outlined a progressive agenda at a campaign event in York, Maine, calling for the replacement of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, changes to the Supreme Court, a weakening of the filibuster, and the organization of an anti-war movement. Platner said he would push Democrats to rethink their vision of power and pursue an aggressive agenda if he is elected the next U.S. senator from Maine.

Platner called for removing two conservative Supreme Court justices and potentially expanding the court. He said he sees himself as an heir to the legacy of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who endorsed him in the competitive Democratic primary. He also called for weakening the filibuster as part of his legislative agenda.

If Democrats win control of the Senate, he said, they must use subpoena power to investigate the Trump administration. Platner said he would push for Senate committees to call administration officials to testify.

"I want to shut the White House down," he said. "I want us to, for the next two years, be dragging every single person in the White House, every single person in all these agencies that have been conducting themselves in illegal and unconstitutional ways. They need to be dragged by subpoena in front of Senate committees over and over and over again."

On firearms policy, he said he would oppose a ban on semi-automatic assault weapons, arguing for a broader approach to gun policy. "We need to have a much more holistic approach than simply banning types of guns that we already have uncountable numbers of in the United States already," he said.
