Ketchup Entertainment acquired the distribution rights to the previously shelved live-action and animated film Coyote vs. Acme from Warner Bros. for $50 million and will release the movie in theaters on August 28, 2026. Ketchup Entertainment has also released the film's trailer.

Warner Bros. shelved Coyote vs. Acme in 2023, canceling the project to take a tax write-off. The studio subsequently allowed the filmmakers to shop the film to other studios. Netflix, Amazon and Paramount submitted bids, which Warner Bros. rejected because they did not meet its $75 million to $80 million price range. David Zaslav was the chief executive of Warner Bros. when the studio decided in 2023 not to move forward with the film as part of a broader shift in distribution strategy.

The film was originally developed for HBO Max with a reported budget of about $70 million. It had been completed and slated for release in July 2023, a date Warner Bros. ultimately assigned to Barbie. The theatrical rollout set by Ketchup Entertainment will arrive nearly three years after the film's initial planned debut.

Development of a film version began in 2018. James Gunn worked on the script, and Samy Burch wrote the screenplay. The project is based on a satirical piece titled "Coyote vs. Acme" by Ian Frazier published in The New Yorker in 1990.

Dave Green directed the film. The official premise describes Wile E. Coyote teaming up with lawyer Kevin Avery to sue ACME, Inc. and its counsel Buddy Crane. Will Forte stars as Kevin Avery and John Cena plays Buddy Crane. Lana Condor plays Paige Avery, P.J. Byrne plays ACME lawyer Bill Pellicano, and Luis Guzmán plays the judge presiding over the trial. Eric Bauza voices Tweety Bird, Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny and Foghorn Leghorn.

Forte described his reaction to seeing the completed film. "This thing must be a hunk a junk. But then I saw it. And it's incredible!" he said. Forte said he remains proud of the finished film and hopeful that its long path to release will help it reach a wider audience when it arrives in theaters.
