NEW YORK CITY — Season 5 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives will resume production in New York City after a pause of more than a month, Hulu confirmed. The production had been halted following domestic violence allegations involving the show's star Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen.

It is not yet clear whether Paul or Mortensen will appear in the upcoming season. The cast includes Whitney Leavitt, Mayci Neeley, Mikayla Matthews, Jessi Draper, Miranda McWhorter and Jen Affleck, along with their husbands and exes. Other cast members resolved concerns about filming after the alleged altercation and were ready to resume production.

During a March 7 meeting between cast members and ABC executives, the cast unanimously decided to pause filming for the next season until the legal action in the domestic violence investigations into Paul and Mortensen played out. An audio recording of the meeting confirmed the cast's decision and revealed concerns about filming alongside Paul, citing her behavior. Hulu executives had visited the set and witnessed cast members speaking about a recent alleged domestic violence incident between Paul and Mortensen, which preceded a mandated weeklong pause in filming.

On March 16, production was paused as Draper City Police investigated domestic violence allegations made by Paul and Mortensen about an incident in late February. At the end of February, Mortensen filed domestic violence allegations against Paul concerning events in 2024, 2025 and 2026 in West Jordan and Draper, Utah. Paul reported domestic violence allegations against Mortensen regarding the 2026 incident in Draper.

On March 19, TMZ released a video appearing to show Paul attacking Mortensen in a 2023 domestic violence incident. The footage showed Paul throwing metal barstools at Mortensen while a child was nearby. The child heard in the video was from Paul's previous marriage and not her son with Mortensen. Paul pleaded guilty in abeyance to one charge of aggravated assault related to the February 2023 incident, and four other charges—including assault, criminal mischief, and domestic violence in the presence of a child—were dismissed with prejudice.

Mortensen filed a temporary protective order against Paul on March 20, resulting in her losing custody of their two-year-old son, Ever, until a court hearing on April 7. Mortensen was granted temporary custody of Ever. Paul and Mortensen have each filed restraining orders against the other.

On March 25, it was revealed that Paul was under a third domestic violence investigation by the West Jordan Police Department, in addition to two investigations by Draper Police. After review by multiple attorneys, a court announced earlier this month that Paul will not face any charges in relation to the February domestic violence incident, and the most recent charges against her have been dropped.
