DUBAI — Daniel Kinahan was arrested in Dubai on Wednesday under a warrant issued by Irish courts over alleged serious organized crime offenses. Dubai Police said they arrested the Irish fugitive for his alleged role in an international organized crime network.

Garda Síochána, Ireland's national police force, said an Irish man in his late 40s had been arrested in Dubai under the warrant. The man arrested was Kinahan, according to RTE. "We are steadfast in our determination that we will pursue those allegedly involved in serious organized criminal activity, wherever they go," the Garda Síochána said.

The High Court in Dublin has named Kinahan as a senior figure in an organized crime gang involved in international drug trafficking operations and firearm offenses. He is the alleged leader of one of Ireland's biggest criminal networks.

A feud between the Kinahan cartel and the Hutch gang has been linked to 18 killings in Ireland since 2015. In 2016, David Byrne, an associate of the Kinahan cartel, was shot dead at a boxing weigh-in at the Regency Hotel in Dublin. Authorities believe Kinahan was the intended target of that shooting. Following Byrne's killing, Kinahan fled Europe and lived in the Costa del Sol in Spain before relocating to Dubai, where he has resided in the United Arab Emirates.

In 2022, the United States offered a $5 million reward for information leading to the financial destruction of the Kinahan Organized Crime Group or the arrest and conviction of its leaders. That year, the U.S. named Kinahan as one of three leaders of the Kinahan Organized Crime Group.

Kinahan was a founder of boxing management company MTK Global. He has been pictured with heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury and attempted to organize fights for Fury, including a proposed superfight against Anthony Joshua that never materialized.
