KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI — KaShawn Nicola Roper was arrested Wednesday in High Springs, Florida, a day after the FBI placed her on its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. Authorities acted on a tip generated by the announcement, which had offered a reward of up to $1 million for information about her location.

High Springs is about 20 miles northwest of Gainesville, Florida. Alachua County online jail records showed that Roper was being held without bond on Thursday.

Roper is accused of killing a woman and wounding another when she fired into a car during an altercation in Kansas City, Missouri, in August 2020. She was charged on state counts of second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. In 2021, she was charged on a federal warrant with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Kansas City police responded around 3:35 a.m. on August 23, 2020, to a hospital where two women who had been shot arrived in a private vehicle. Jazmyn Henrion, 23, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other woman had injuries that were not life-threatening.

Roper was identified as the suspect and charged 18 days later, on September 10. Police learned that she had fled the Kansas City area immediately after the incident, and investigators continued to seek her arrest in the years that followed.

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said the case had remained a priority for investigators in the years since the shooting. "We have never forgotten."
