WASHINGTON, D.C. — TMZ decided to launch a bureau in Washington, D.C., to cover United States politicians. The hosts of The View discussed the decision on the ABC daytime program, with multiple hosts expressing support for the move.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, a television host who previously worked in the White House and on Capitol Hill, endorsed the bureau's opening. "I welcome it, personally. I think that until members of Congress hold themselves to a higher standard they're not entitled to some of the decorum that they might be treated with by these people covering them," Griffin said.

Griffin listed recent congressional scandals including mistresses, affairs and abuse during the discussion. "Members of Congress should have more scrutiny on their lives than, say, Kim Kardashian does," she added. After a co-host questioned the comparison, Griffin clarified that she was referring to members of Congress, not Kim Kardashian.

During the segment, The View shared a clip of TMZ asking Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham about a bubble wand. Graham had been photographed at Disney World in Florida holding the toy. TMZ also asked Sen. Ted Cruz whether he was on the Pope's side or on the president's side.

Television host Joy Behar expressed agreement with the approach. "[TMZ] will ask questions and it'll be on television and you'll see them running away on television," Behar said. She also noted it was the second consecutive day she had agreed with Griffin.

Television host Sunny Hostin also voiced support for TMZ's expansion into political coverage. "It's a circus, right? So cover it like a circus," Hostin said. Hostin also said, "[Trump] introduced these sort of podcasters and influencers into White House Correspondents Association so he lowered the bar for this type of coverage." During the discussion, co-hosts pointed to former Rep. Matt Gaetz, who was accused of sexual misconduct, and Rep. Eric Swalwell as examples of politicians who could face such coverage.
