KYIV — Russian forces bombed Ukraine's capital Kyiv and other cities on Thursday, killing three people, according to Ukrainian officials. At least 18 city residents were injured in the capital, where an air raid warning remained in place as emergency crews responded to destruction spanning several districts.

Two of the three people killed died in Kyiv — a 12-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman. Doctors hospitalized 11 of the bombing victims in the capital. At least four medics were also injured as a result of repeated shelling in the city, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko.

"According to doctors, two people died in the capital – a 12-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman. [Eighteen] city residents have been injured so far. Doctors have hospitalised 11 victims," Klitschko said. The mayor urged residents to stay in their shelters while the air raid warning remained active across the city.

Debris from the attacks caused fires in a residential building in the Podilskyi district of Kyiv, according to the mayor. The strikes also damaged a hotel in the same district and caused a home to collapse. Rescue workers responding to the destruction pulled survivors from the wreckage. "A child and her mother were rescued from the rubble," Klitschko said.

The strikes caused damage across additional districts of the capital. In the Obolonskyi district, the attacks damaged an office building and set cars ablaze, according to Klitschko. Falling debris set off a fire at a two-storey residential building in the Desnyanski district. Emergency services continued working across all affected areas as the air raid warning persisted.
