FAIRFIELD — Jason Nichols, 30, was arraigned Monday in Solano County Court on multiple felony charges stemming from an alleged home invasion and assault at a residence in Fairfield. Judge William Pendergast III raised Nichols's bail from $35,000 to $250,000 during the arraignment.

Nichols is charged with one count each of felony assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, threatening a crime with intent to terrorize, and vandalism. He was also booked on one count of annoying or molesting a child. His next scheduled court date is April 23. Online court documents did not list an attorney for Nichols.

According to details presented in the case, the homeowner's wife and child were alone in the home when a doorbell camera captured Nichols at the front door. The homeowner spoke to Nichols remotely through the camera's app. During that exchange, Nichols asked, "Where is your daughter?" and threatened the homeowner. He also identified himself as Harry Dresden, a wizard from a fictional novel series.

After failing to kick through the front door, Nichols gained entry through a glass side door. Security video from inside the home shows him ripping open closet doors and searching for the homeowner's daughter. While moving through the residence, Nichols demanded, "Where the f--- is she?"

The homeowner's husband arrived at the residence and confronted Nichols while armed with a shovel. Both the homeowner and Nichols sustained head injuries during their altercation. Officers later found Nichols near the home and took him into custody.

A parent had separately reported to police that they had an encounter with Nichols on April 5, prior to the alleged home invasion. The nature of the connection between the two incidents was not detailed in available records. Fairfield is a city of about 122,000 people in the San Francisco Bay Area.
