NATIONWIDE — McDonald's will add refreshers and crafted sodas to its menu starting in May, a spokesperson said, with energy drinks set to follow later this year. The new offerings include a Dirty Dr Pepper and a Mango Pineapple Refresher.
According to internal documents related to the launch, McDonald's plans to undercut competitors such as Starbucks and Dutch Bros on price. The company said it would soon share additional details about the expanded drinks lineup. "Our fans' love for McDonald's beverages runs deep, from rallying for the return of Hi-C Orange Lavaburst to coining the iconic 'Spicy Sprite,'" the company said in a statement.
The beverage expansion comes after McDonald's closed CosMc's, its beverage-oriented spinoff chain, in May of last year. Following the closure of those stores, the company tested new drink combinations in its U.S. restaurants, including a Sour Cherry Energy Burst. McDonald's said at the time that it was seeing momentum in beverages among Gen Z consumers.
