Monthly U.S. naturalization approvals reached 88,488 at their peak in 2025, the highest level since U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services began tracking monthly data in 2022, according to USCIS data. By January 2026, that figure had dropped to 32,862, the lowest monthly total recorded since tracking began in 2022.

The approvals in March, April, and May 2025 each exceeded any single month in 2024, according to USCIS data. From February through April 2025, a total of 270,290 people applied to become U.S. citizens.

Application numbers declined sharply later in 2025. In October 2025, 169,159 people applied to naturalize. By November 2025, that number had fallen to 41,478 — the lowest monthly application count of the year. Both applications and approvals continued to decline heading into 2026, when January recorded the lowest monthly approval total since USCIS began tracking the figures in 2022.
