LONDON — HBO confirmed on Friday that musician and producer Labrinth will not be involved in the third season of the TV drama Euphoria. The network did not elaborate on the reasons for his departure.

The confirmation followed an Instagram post in March in which Labrinth criticized HBO and record label Columbia and distanced himself from the forthcoming season. In the post, he wrote that he was "done" with the industry. "I'm out. Thank you and good night." he posted.

Labrinth wrote the score and several songs for the first two seasons of Euphoria, including "Formula," "Still Don't Know My Name" and "Never Felt So Alone." The song "Never Felt So Alone," which featured Billie Eilish, was nominated for a Grammy Award. His music blends R&B, electronic, hip-hop and soul.

HBO had announced last year that both Labrinth and composer Hans Zimmer would compose music for the third season. Rolling Stone and the Hollywood Reporter also reported that Labrinth would no longer be involved. With his departure now confirmed, the season will proceed without him.

Euphoria creator and writer Sam Levinson had previously discussed Labrinth's role in shaping the series. "He [Labrinth] is an incredible collaborator and someone who really built the foundation of the sound of Euphoria," Levinson said. He also described the musical direction he envisioned for the new season. "They're out of high school, so the pop roots of it have faded away. At the same time, because of how I imagined it visually, I wanted to lean into an old-fashioned Hollywood Western score," he said in a podcast interview.

Zimmer, whose film scores include Dune, The Lion King, Interstellar and True Romance, acknowledged Labrinth's contributions to the series while discussing his own role going forward. "Labrinth had shaped the show's identity," Zimmer said. "I am looking forward to contributing to the ongoing story and helping shape this new season through music," he added.

The third season of Euphoria, which arrives four years after the previous installment, will premiere on HBO on Sunday. The show's cast has included Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi.
