U.S. — YouTube announced it will raise prices on its Premium subscription plans in the United States, increasing the cost of its individual plan by $2 to $15.99 per month and its family plan to $26.99 per month. The new rates take effect beginning with subscribers' June 7, 2026 billing date.

The company communicated the pricing changes directly to existing subscribers through email notifications. YouTube has not posted a standalone blog entry detailing the increases. In an email to subscribers, the company wrote: "We're increasing your price to $15.99/month. We don't make these decisions lightly, but this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube. You will see the change reflected on your June 7, 2026 billing date."

The price adjustments extend beyond the standard individual and family tiers. The Premium Lite subscription also rose by $1, moving from $7.99 to $8.99 per month.

The increase is the first U.S. price adjustment for YouTube Premium since 2023, when the monthly cost for individual subscribers rose to $13.99. International Premium subscribers saw separate price increases in 2024.

YouTube's paid subscription service has gone through several pricing changes since its inception. The platform first launched its subscription tier under the name YouTube Red in 2015, charging $9.99 per month for the individual plan. In 2018, the service was rebranded as YouTube Premium with a monthly individual rate of $11.99. The price then rose to $13.99 per month in 2023. With the latest increase to $15.99, the monthly cost of an individual subscription has risen by $6 since the service launched in 2015.

Users who do not pay for a Premium subscription can still stream unlimited videos on YouTube but are shown advertisements during playback. YouTube generated more than $40 billion in advertising revenue in 2025.
