DARKE COUNTY, OHIO — Tarsem Singh, an Indian national, has been indicted on vehicular homicide, involuntary manslaughter, and reckless homicide charges following a high-speed chase on Feb. 16 in Darke County, Ohio, that ended in a crash killing 17-year-old Ashlee Holmes. Singh is being held on a $1 million bond.

A Darke County Sheriff's Office deputy noticed an SUV driving nearly 25 mph over the speed limit and attempted to catch up to it, according to the sheriff's office. The deputy paced the SUV at 100 mph. As the deputy activated his emergency lights, the SUV sped away.

The SUV traveled roughly five miles at speeds reaching 124 mph before crashing into an eastbound vehicle on a curve, according to the sheriff's office. The pursuit lasted less than three minutes from initiation to the crash.

Holmes, who was pregnant at the time, was found dead after being ejected from the vehicle, according to the sheriff's office. The reason Holmes was in Singh's vehicle is unknown, the sheriff's office said.

Singh was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, according to the sheriff's office. The female driver of the eastbound vehicle was conscious, alert, and injured, and was taken to Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana, according to the sheriff's office.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Singh allegedly entered the United States illegally in February 2017 through the southern border in California. He was arrested after entering the country and released on bond by order of a judge, according to DHS.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged an arrest detainer with Ohio authorities against Singh, according to DHS. The detainer was filed to prevent Singh from being released and from driving again, according to DHS.
