MARTIN COUNTY, FLORIDA — Police in Martin County, Florida, released the affidavit that was used to arrest professional golfer Tiger Woods on suspicion of driving while impaired following a car crash near his home.

According to the affidavit, Woods was driving his SUV down a residential street when he clipped the trailer of another vehicle that had slowed ahead of him on the road. Woods then swerved, and his SUV flipped onto its side and skidded down the roadway. The crash left Woods trapped inside the overturned SUV, and emergency personnel extricated him through the front passenger window of the vehicle, the affidavit stated.

After being removed from the SUV, Woods spoke with responding officers about the circumstances of the crash. He told police that he had been looking down at his cell phone and changing the radio station at the time of the collision, according to the affidavit. Woods told officers he did not notice that the vehicle ahead of him had slowed down before the impact occurred.

When police asked Woods about potential substance use at the scene, he denied any recent alcohol consumption, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Woods was sweating profusely at the time officers encountered him. Officers also observed that Woods had bloodshot and glassy eyes.

Officers additionally reported finding two hydrocodone tablets in Woods's pocket at the scene of the crash, according to the affidavit. Following those observations, police administered field sobriety tests. The results led officers to conclude that Woods was impaired, and he was subsequently placed under arrest.

Woods has previously said that he experienced issues with prescription painkillers stemming from back and leg surgeries he had undergone.

Woods was previously involved in a separate crash that also resulted in his vehicle flipping over.
