LONGWOOD, FLORIDA — The Fertility Center of Orlando announced on its website that it is closing its Longwood, Florida, clinic, though it did not specify when operations would cease. The closure comes as the clinic faces legal and financial problems, according to public records, including two lawsuits filed this year.

In January 2026, Tiffany Score and Steven Mills filed a lawsuit against the Fertility Center of Orlando and its head reproductive endocrinologist after undergoing in vitro fertilization at the clinic. Genetic testing revealed that the baby girl born to Score in December 2025 was not the biological child of Score and Mills. According to court filings, the couple decided to pursue genetic testing because they are both white and their newborn displayed the physical appearance of a racially non-Caucasian child.

Both lawsuits name the clinic and its founder, Dr. Milton McNichol, as defendants. According to court filings, the defendants in the embryo mix-up case have not disputed that the baby born to Score should be, but is not, the genetic child of Score and Mills. Defense attorneys said during court hearings that they are cooperating with requests to conduct DNA testing on other couples to identify the baby's biological parents.

In March 2026, a woman filed a separate lawsuit alleging the clinic allowed her to serve as a surrogate for her cousin. According to court filings, the lawsuit said the woman was unable to understand the surrogacy agreement because she had a long history of severe mental illness. The suit also alleges that the plaintiff's cousin and the cousin's partner were aware that the plaintiff was psychologically unfit to serve as a surrogate; both are also named as defendants. The baby born to the surrogate had a genetic disorder and died days after birth, according to court filings. The clinic and McNichol have not responded to the surrogacy lawsuit in court.

Mara Hatfield, attorney for Score and Mills, questioned the clinic's closure. The clinic told patients in an email that another IVF network will open a clinic at its existing location. The email said patients will continue to see many of the same staff members and additional team members at the new clinic. Neither the email to patients nor the website announcement specified reasons for the closure or whether McNichol would continue providing care.
