The price of a 12-piece Henckels stainless steel cookware set at Costco stood at $209.99 on April 2, 2026, a 35% increase compared with its price before President Donald Trump took office. The cookware set, which is manufactured in China and made of stainless steel and aluminum, has seen its retail price fluctuate since tariffs on Chinese imports began rising in early 2025.
The set, listed under item code 1816600, was available at Costco in September 2024 for $184.99. In November 2024, the retailer offered a $40 discount as part of a pre-Thanksgiving promotion, bringing the price down to $144.99.
Trump announced the "Liberation Day" tariffs on April 2, 2025, and additional policy changes after that date increased tariffs on steel imports. Import duties on stainless steel kitchenware from China had begun increasing in February 2025 and accelerated after April 2, 2025, according to a tariff simulator from supply chain management company Flexport.
By April 2025, the cookware set's price at Costco had risen to $249.99 — $105, or 70%, higher than the November 2024 discounted price. The price dropped to $219.99 by June 2025, $30 lower than the April peak. The set was out of stock at Costco during several visits in fall 2025.
In January 2026, a Costco fan page posted a photo showing the cookware set listed at $209.99 with a $45 discount, making the sale price $164.99 — still $20 more than the November 2024 purchase price. By April 2, 2026, the set's regular price remained at $209.99.
A February 2026 Supreme Court ruling overturned a set of tariffs, but that ruling did not include tariffs on steel and other metals, leaving duties on steel cookware largely unaffected. A separate order from Trump would require items containing certain metals to be tariffed at their total import value instead of based on material percentages.
Henckels is a brand owned by parent company Zwilling. During a company earnings call, Costco said that the complexity of layered tariffs and multiple rate changes made it challenging to track the exact impact on individual items. The retailer pledged to pass along any tariff refunds through lower prices and better values for members. Costco Chief Executive Officer Ron Vachris said during an earnings call that pots and pans performed particularly well in the last quarter's results.
