SAN ANTONIO — All flyover ramps at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange will remain open during the weekend closures. Westbound Loop 1604, both directions of I-10 and all frontage roads and flyover ramps will remain open during daytime hours Saturday and Sunday. Access to businesses will remain available throughout the weekend closures at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange.
Beginning at 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, the eastbound I-10 entrance ramp south of the Loop 1604 interchange will be permanently closed for future roadway improvements. TxDOT said a new exit ramp is expected to open later this year.
One closure will affect the northbound and southbound lanes on I-35 between Oltorf Street and SH 45 SE from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, September 17. TxDOT stated the I-35 closure between Oltorf Street and SH 45 SE is due to paving and barrier work. Due to the I-35 closure between Oltorf Street and SH 45 SE, I-35 will be reduced to one lane in some areas and multiple entrance and exit ramps will also be closed.
There will be nightly lane closures on northbound and southbound I-35 between Airport Blvd and 12th Street from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. The MLK bridge and NB/FB frontage roads will have varying nightly lane closures. TxDOT is planning a closure on Cesar Chavez Street between Springdale Rd and Brushy Street from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday. The closure on Cesar Chavez Street between Springdale Rd and Brushy Street is due to utility work.
Why It Matters
The closures facilitate the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project. These projects involve setting bridge beams, paving, barrier work and utility work across multiple major interchanges and roadways.
The Transportation Department published notice titled "Notice of Final Federal Agency Actions on Proposed Highway Projects in Texas" on June 23, 2026. The current closures represent the execution of these planned highway improvements, affecting commuter routes on I-10, I-35 and Loop 1604 through mid-September.
Timeline
The southbound I-35 entrance ramp to southbound Loop 410 will close from 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, through 8 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13. The southbound I-35 access road south of the Fratt Road entrance ramp to Exit 164B, along with the northbound-to-southbound I-35 U-turn at Walzem Road, will close from 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12 through 8 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13. The I-35 northbound access road north of Rittiman Road and northbound I-35 Exit 164B will close from 8 a.m. to midnight on Saturday, Sept. 12.
