PATTAYA — The USS Abraham Lincoln is scheduled to dock at Laem Chabang port just after midnight on Wednesday for a rest stop after more than 270 consecutive days at sea. The aircraft carrier is returning to the United States after a deployment in the Middle East.

Approximately 600 officials will provide security and assistance for the visit, according to provincial governor Narit Niramaiwong. "About 600 officials will provide security and other necessary assistance," he said.

The ship sailed past Singapore early on Sunday and is accompanied by two other U.S. Navy vessels during the stopover. Laem Chabang Port is located 62 miles east of Bangkok.

U.S. service members are banned from parasailing and cannabis use during the port visit. "Service members would be banned from certain recreational activities such as parasailing and cannabis use," said Poramase Ngampiches, Pattaya’s mayor.

Medical cannabis was legalized in Thailand in 2022. Thai government officials have warned local businesses not to overcharge U.S. sailors.

Police presence will be increased in popular areas along Pattaya Beach and Walking Street. "Law enforcements agencies had been ordered to step up security measures to prevent undesirable situations," said Anek Srathongyoo, Pattaya’s police chief.

U.S. service members who break Thai law will be prosecuted. "If any US service members broke Thai law, they would be prosecuted accordingly," Srathongyoo said.

Pattaya authorities are intensifying prostitution checks and security patrols across the city due to the arrival of nearly 5,000 sailors. Approximately 40 buses will transport sailors between Laem Chabang port and Pattaya in staggered groups.

A banner at a local bar read: "Welcome all US military personnel. Thank you for your service." Local business owners and officials welcome the economic boost but express uncertainty about actual visitor numbers.
