GRAPEVINE, TEXAS — Conservative activists at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Grapevine, Texas, said they believe President Donald Trump's attack on Iran was justified, even as the conflict entered its fifth week by late March 2026. The war with Iran was a major focus of the conference, where attendees expressed continued support for Trump while outlining conditions they said would determine whether the conflict was worthwhile.

Many attendees said the war would be worthwhile if the president ends the conflict soon, gas prices drop, no U.S. troops are sent to Iran, and the Iranian people rise up and reclaim their country. Some attendees wore hats bearing the acronym MIGA, which stands for "Make Iran Great Again."

At the same time, some attendees acknowledged that the conflict has caused pain at home. Ron Eller, a Republican candidate for the Mississippi congressional seat held by Representative Bennie Thompson, said he supports Trump's attack on Iran but said the spike in oil prices after the attack has created strains within the Republican Party.

Kyle Sims, a 61-year-old Republican strategist in Texas, said he supports Trump's handling of the war. "I know we need to free the Iranian people," Sims said. "There are some issues in this country I wish we were focused on a little bit more at the same time."

Sims expressed concern about the potential for a prolonged engagement. "I don't want to have another Iraq or Afghanistan," he said.

Douglas Hoyt, a 55-year-old attendee from West Virginia, said he has full faith in Trump's decisions as president. "I will back Trump until the day they put him in the ground," Hoyt said.

Attendees also expressed worry about the chaos the war may unleash, even as they voiced support for the president.
