U.S. — The Powerball jackpot has reached an estimated $905 million for the Monday, Aug. 10, 2026 drawing after no ticket matched all six numbers in the Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026 drawing. This prize represents the largest Powerball jackpot of 2026 and marks the 43rd consecutive drawing without a grand prize winner.

The current streak is the longest in the game's history. The jackpot has grown by $885 million since it was last won on May 2, 2026, when two tickets in Florida and Texas split a $20 million prize. The estimated cash value for the upcoming lump-sum payment is $391.9 million.

The winning numbers for the Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026 drawing were 5, 9, 35, 54, 63 and Powerball 7. The Power Play multiplier for that drawing was set at 3x, which was the same multiplier used in the previous three drawings. A single ticket sold in Texas matched all five white balls and the Power Play option to win $2 million, which was the second-highest prize awarded in that drawing.

Tickets sold in Arizona, Florida, Michigan, and New York each won $1 million by matching all five white balls in the Saturday drawing. According to official Powerball results, there were 1,040 tickets that matched five white balls and won $1 million each. Two $50,000 Powerball tickets were also sold in North Carolina for the Saturday drawing, with one purchased at Carlton's Tanglewood in Clemmons and another at Food Lion in Concord.

Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET at the Florida Lottery's headquarters in Tallahassee. The game is overseen by the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), which also manages other large jackpot games such as Mega Millions. Powerball is played in 45 U.S. states, Washington, D.C. Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, while Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah do not have a state lottery.

The odds of winning the Powerball grand prize are 1 in 292,201,338, while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9. Tickets cost $2 to play. The Power Play feature, which increases non-jackpot prizes, has been active in 73% of Powerball drawings since its introduction in 2012.

The $905 million jackpot is the eighth-largest in Powerball history, with the top seven jackpots all exceeding $1 billion. It is also the 16th-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history when including Mega Millions jackpots. The largest Powerball jackpot ever won was a single $2.04 billion ticket sold in California in November 2022.

Stephen Durrell, Powerball Product Group chair and Kansas Lottery executive director, said entering the top 10 largest Powerball jackpots is when we historically see a lot of players join in the game. Federal tax withholding on lottery winnings over $5,000 is 24%, and the top federal income tax bracket is 37%. State taxes on lottery winnings range from 2.9% in North Dakota to 10.9% in New York, though California, Florida, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming do not levy state taxes on lottery winnings. The federal gift tax rate is 40% for gifts exceeding $13.99 million for individuals or $27.98 million for married couples in 2025.

The 43-drawing streak without a jackpot winner has pushed the prize to a level that historically drives increased player participation. As the jackpot enters the top tier of all-time prizes, the scale of potential winnings attracts broader attention across the 45 states and territories where the game is available. The absence of a winner since May 2, 2026, has allowed the prize to accumulate significantly, creating one of the largest jackpots in the game's history.

This accumulation shows the mechanical structure of the game, where odds of 1 in 292,201,338 make grand prize wins rare events. The Multi-State Lottery Association oversees the process, ensuring that drawings proceed on schedule until a ticket matches all six numbers. The financial implications for a potential winner involve substantial federal and state tax considerations, depending on the jurisdiction where the ticket was purchased.

Why It Matters

The $905 million prize, ranking as the eighth-largest in Powerball history, enters a tier that historically drives increased player participation across 45 states and territories. This accumulation over 43 consecutive drawings without a winner shows how the game's 1-in-292,201,338 odds create rare events capable of generating record-scale jackpots. Any eventual winner will face mandatory federal withholding of 24 percent plus state taxes ranging up to 10.9 percent, significantly reducing the final payout from the advertised annuity or cash value.
