MIAMI — Perez Hilton was hospitalized after livestreaming acts of self-harm on TikTok on Tuesday night, prompting a crisis response from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the 48-year-old media personality to a local hospital for medical treatment following the incident.

The broadcast, which lasted approximately 15 minutes according to a TikTok US spokesperson, triggered immediate alerts to local law enforcement. Viewers pleaded for Hilton to stop during the livestream as the platform’s automated moderation systems flagged the content within minutes and referred it to the US moderation team for review.

Deputies responded to a home at the corner of Southwest 31st Street and 77th Court in the Westchester neighborhood of Miami-Dade. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls regarding an individual livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media during the event.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed that Hilton was alone inside his home during the incident. Deputies spoke with Hilton’s family members who were on the scene while prioritizing de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication.

The sheriff’s office stated that slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimize the risk of injury. Deputies tactfully disengaged while continuing to monitor the situation before Hilton was taken into custody for medical care.

TikTok alerted local law enforcement officials about the livestream and stated the content violated its community guidelines, which prohibit content depicting or promoting suicide or self-harm. A TikTok US spokesperson said several subsequent livestreams were removed within 90 seconds and Hilton’s account was ultimately banned.

Screen recordings of the footage have circulated on platforms including X and Instagram, drawing reactions from viewers and public figures. Instagram user Dana Bowling said: "Can we file a class action suit against TikTok for exposing adults and teens to that trauma…? No one should be ok with this."

TV personality Tefi Pessoa wrote on her Instagram story: "If Perez Hilton’s live triggered you in any way, please call 988. There is help, I promise. I love you." Hilton’s team and family released a statement on Wednesday afternoon confirming that Hilton is receiving medical care.
