SODDY DAISY — The property tax rate in Soddy Daisy for 2027 is $2.6157 for every $100 of assessed value. This rate saw no increase from 2026 to 2027. The tax rate comprises $1.1000 for the city and $1.5157 for Hamilton County.

The commission approved the purchase of body cameras and tasers for the police department in the 2027 budget. The body cameras are manufactured by AXON Enterprises. The cost for the police body cameras and tasers is $59,642 for the first year and $50,753 for each of the following four years.

Police Chief Billy Petty stated the new body cameras can track officers, show real-time activity, retain video longer, and automatically download video to evidence.com when an officer enters a building. City Manager Burt Johnson stated that funding for the body cameras was reallocated from the purchase of one of three originally planned police cars.

Soddy Daisy is continuing its garbage collection service with CWS. CWS is providing each residence with one large garbage can, with an option for a second can for $7 per month. Residents must use the provided cans for the automated garbage trucks to collect waste.

The commission approved a certificate of compliance for a business at 12598 Dayton Pike to sell alcoholic beverages. The owner of the business at 12598 Dayton Pike must still apply to the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission to sell spirits, wine, and beer. Soddy Daisy will continue paying Hamilton County to administer reporting software for the police department.

Commissioner Steve Everett stated that the city issued $3.5 million in building permits in June 2026. The Soddy Daisy Fourth of July celebration had a record number of participants.

The approval of the 2027 budget maintains the current tax burden for residents while funding new police equipment through internal reallocation rather than new revenue. The continuation of the garbage collection contract with CWS ensures ongoing waste management services, though the transition to automated collection with specific cans remains in effect for residents.
