CHATTANOOGA — Archie Smith, 76, was arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred on July 5, 2026. Smith is charged with attempted homicide and felony reckless endangerment. Police responded to a report of a person being shot in the 1000 block of North Hickory Street at approximately 3 a.m. Officers located a 61-year-old man with a gunshot wound upon arrival.

The victim sustained a non-life-threatening injury. He identified Archie Smith as the shooter via a photo lineup.

The victim said that a female was sitting on his front porch charging her cell phone when Smith approached. Smith accused the victim of having a sexual relationship with the woman.

The victim said that he denied having any type of relationship with the woman. The two men argued before Smith pulled a pistol and shot him once in the leg.

Chattanooga police received an anonymous tip on July 17, 2026, at 9:15 p.m., leading to Smith's arrest. Smith was transported to the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.

Smith, 76, faces serious felony charges following the confrontation.
