MIAMI — British prosecutors announced they are seeking extradition on charges including rape and sex trafficking. The Crown Prosecution Service stated the alleged offenses occurred between July 2010 and August 2017. The Tate brothers were taken into custody outside the James L. Knight Center in Miami. Andrew Tate was scheduled to host a bare-knuckle boxing event at the time of the arrest.

Brady McCarron, a spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals Service, confirmed the arrest and the sealed warrant to The Associated Press. The U.S. Marshals Service executed the arrest on a sealed warrant. A Department of Justice spokesperson stated the arrests were made pursuant to extradition proceedings and in accordance with treaties and law enforcement agreements.

"Today, U.S. Marshals in the Southern District of Florida arrested Andrew and Tristan Tate pursuant to extradition proceedings," the spokesperson said. "These arrests were made in accordance with the treaties and law enforcement agreements governing Justice Department extraditions.

Andrew and Tristan Tate are dual citizens of the United States and the United Kingdom. Tristan Tate is 38 years old. The Tate brothers returned to the United States in February 2025.

Andrew Tate faces seven additional counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and 19 charges relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Andrew Tate faces a total of 42 charges according to the Crown Prosecution Service and Bedfordshire Police. Tristan Tate faces one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.

Tristan Tate faces a total of 17 charges according to officials. The total number of alleged victims in the case is seven.

Joseph McBride, an attorney for the Tate brothers, stated he had not been able to speak with his clients at the time of the arrest. "They're pulling out all the stops to make sure these guys never get their day in court," McBride said. "We are confident that once a competent judge sees the facts, and once the Department of Justice confronts this egregious abuse of its own authority, Andrew and Tristan Tate will walk free." McBride added, "America does not do Britain's political dirty work." McBride stated there is a long-standing agreement between the U.K. and Romanian governments that the U.K. would not seek extradition while Romanian proceedings are pending.

"There is a long-standing agreement between the UK and Romanian governments that the UK would not seek extradition while the Romanian proceedings are pending," McBride said. "Those proceedings are ongoing right now." McBride also said, "That agreement exists because no nation gets to trample the judicial sovereignty of another for political convenience."

Andrew and Tristan Tate moved to Romania in 2016. Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested in Romania in 2022 on accusations of participating in schemes to lure women for sexual exploitation. The Romanian case against the Tate brothers did not proceed due to legal and procedural irregularities. A Romanian court lifted all preventative judicial control measures against the Tate brothers while authorities conduct further investigations. Andrew Tate stated in 2023, "We’ve been completely innocent since the beginning of this, and I have to give absolute faith to the Romanian judicial system for finally making the right decision and letting us free." Joseph McBride stated, "What's important to know is despite all the horrible allegations against these guys, they have been traveling the world the past few years without incident." McBride also said, "They have been making court appearances in Romania and not missing a single one." McBride stated, "We are going to trial in Florida and it looks promising, If we win, the entire narrative collapses."

The pending charges in the United Kingdom accuse the brothers of abusing women in an area north of London. Andrew and Tristan Tate grew up in an area north of London. Andrew Tate appeared as a contestant on the U.K. reality television show "Big Brother" in 2016. Andrew Tate was removed from "Big Brother" after a video surfaced appearing to show him assaulting a woman. Andrew Tate and the women involved in the "Big Brother" incident later claimed the actions were consensual. Andrew Tate has been banned from YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram for violating hate speech guidelines. Andrew Tate has over 10 million followers on X. Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate are former professional kickboxers. Andrew Tate returned to fighting in December 2025 in exhibition boxing and lost a majority decision to Chase DeMoor. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis publicly stated the Tate brothers were not welcome in the state. A White House official intervened in 2025 to protect the Tate brothers after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials seized their electronic devices.

Andrew Tate previously faced 21 criminal charges in a separate case in the U.K., including rape, actual bodily harm, and human trafficking. The previous U.K. charges against Andrew Tate were connected to three alleged victims. A high court judge threw out the Tate brothers’ legal claim to be told the names of their female accusers.

Andrew and Tristan Tate have denied allegations of abuse and human trafficking. Andrew and Tristan Tate are expected to appear in federal court in Miami early next week.
