Anthropic accidentally leaked the source code for its Claude Code AI agent and issued a DMCA takedown against the GitHub repository hosting the leaked source code and its forks.

The leaked source code garnered millions of views and adaptations on GitHub before the takedown. The leak inadvertently exposed Anthropic's harness, a software infrastructure used to connect large language models to their broader context.

Paul Price, cybersecurity specialist and founder of the ethical hacking firm Code Wall, assessed the impact of the leak. "It's more embarrassing than detrimental," Price said.

Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google have faced lawsuits over their use of copyrighted material without explicit permission. The lawsuits concerned use of published books, articles, scientific journals, and other online content. The class-action lawsuit was brought by authors and publishers including lead plaintiffs Andrea Bartz, Charles Graeber, and Kirk Wallace Johnson.
