HARRIS COUNTY — Maitlin Paige White, 29, was sentenced to three years in prison on July 17, 2026, after pleading guilty to two counts of online impersonation. White had created a fake GoFundMe campaign while posing as the family of Chloe Childress, a victim of the Camp Mystic flooding.

White accepted a plea deal on Friday morning, admitting to the charges stemming from her impersonation scheme. She used her cell phone to set up the fraudulent GoFundMe account, which purported to raise money for the Childress family during their time of grief. GoFundMe later banned White's account from future fundraising on the platform.

During the investigation, White told authorities she was a single mother of two children and had been seeking to make quick money. Harris County Constable Precinct One Alan Rosen condemned her actions, saying, "It is inexcusable how she sought to prey on the emotions of our community and abused the family of Chloe Childress who have endured an unimaginable tragedy." Rosen added, "Let this be a warning to anyone else who ever seeks to engage in such schemes in the future."
