Amylyx Pharmaceuticals will report results from a phase 3 clinical trial evaluating avexitide, a treatment for a rare endocrine disorder, later in the third quarter of 2026. The trial assesses the drug’s ability to address severe hypoglycemia that occurs in some patients following bariatric surgery.

The drug under investigation, avexitide, is designed to halt severe, uncontrolled drops in blood sugar experienced by certain individuals after undergoing stomach-reducing surgery for weight loss. This condition, known as post-bariatric hypoglycemia, is classified as a rare endocrine disorder and can impact patients’ quality of life.

Amylyx Pharmaceuticals, an American biopharmaceutical company headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is developing avexitide as part of its pipeline focused on neurological and metabolic conditions. The company was established in 2013 and is led by co-CEOs Justin Klee and Joshua Cohen.

This upcoming data readout comes two years after Amylyx voluntarily withdrew its amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) drug from the market in July 2024. The withdrawal followed findings from a confirmatory study that showed the treatment did not provide clinical benefit to patients.
