JUPITER, FLORIDA — Tiger Woods was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after his Land Rover struck a trailer being towed by a pickup truck and rolled onto its side in Jupiter, Florida. Woods, 50, was taken into custody at around 2 p.m. Friday at the scene of the crash, according to an arrest report.

Woods' SUV struck the back of the trailer while the truck was turning into a driveway, causing the vehicle to roll over, according to an incident report. Woods told a deputy at the scene that he had looked down at his cellphone and did not realize the truck had slowed down.

Woods was sweating profusely while sitting in an air-conditioned vehicle at the crash scene, according to an arrest report. When he removed his sunglasses during the investigation, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and his pupils were extremely dilated. A deputy observed that Woods' movements were lethargic and slow while speaking to an officer.

Woods told deputies that he had not consumed alcohol that day and had taken "a few" prescription medication pills earlier in the morning, according to an arrest report. Two pills later determined to be the painkiller hydrocodone were found in the pocket of his pants.

The truck driver told authorities that he saw Woods traveling at high speeds when he looked in his mirror as the truck began turning. Woods tried to swerve to avoid the collision but struck the trailer, authorities said. The truck driver and another person helped Woods exit his SUV after it rolled onto its side, according to an arrest report.

Law enforcement said that Woods climbed out of the window of his SUV at the crash scene before being arrested. Woods struggled to perform the field sobriety test, including limping and stumbling to the right during one exercise, according to an arrest report. He submitted to a breath test at the jail but refused to undergo a urine test, authorities said.

No one was injured in the collision, according to an arrest report. The trailer involved in the crash sustained an estimated $5,000 worth of damage, according to an incident report.

Woods said he is stepping away to seek treatment after he was charged with driving under the influence. "This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery," Woods said in a social media statement. "I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally."

Woods was arrested in 2017 for driving under the influence in Florida after authorities found him unconscious in his Mercedes-Benz roughly 15 miles from his home. A toxicology report from the 2017 arrest showed Woods had five drugs in his system, including painkillers and a sleep drug, authorities said.
