LONDON — King Charles III will make a state visit to the United States next month. Buckingham Palace said that the king and Queen Camilla will travel to the United States in late April to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American Independence.

The state visit is scheduled for April 27-30. This will be King Charles III's first state visit to the United States since becoming king.

"I look forward to spending time with the King, whom I greatly respect. It will be TERRIFIC!" former U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer traveled to Washington in February 2025 to hand-deliver King Charles III's invitation to the United States president. It was the first time any world leader received a second state visit and the first time the invitation was delivered in a personal letter from the king.

"It's a great, great honor. That's really something," Trump said.

King Charles III will travel to Bermuda in conjunction with the United States trip, according to Buckingham Palace. This will be King Charles III's first visit to Bermuda as monarch.

The visit comes after Trump made a state visit to the United Kingdom in September 2025. King Charles III hosted a banquet for Trump at Windsor Castle in a hall decorated with flowers and gold leaf. Trump was welcomed by a military band during his state visit to Windsor Castle last year.

The United Kingdom's government aimed to shore up the special relationship with the United States during Trump's visit.

King Charles III has visited the United States 19 times. Queen Elizabeth II made four state visits to the United States. The monarch hosts state visits at home and travels abroad at the request of the elected government.
