The Trade Desk appointed Penry Price to its board of directors. The move comes as the company navigates a period marked by multiple executive departures and a substantial decline in its stock value and market capitalization.
Price brings decades of experience in digital advertising, having previously held executive roles at LinkedIn and Google. He served as vice president of marketing solutions at LinkedIn, global vice president of agency sales and partnerships at Google, and president of Dstillery. He also co-founded the investment firm 37Arc and played a role in Google’s $3.1 billion acquisition of DoubleClick.
The appointment follows the departure of eight executives from The Trade Desk: Anders Mortensen, Samantha Jacobson, Alex Kayyal, Tim Sims, Ian Colley, Lise Buyer, Gokul Rajaram, and Kathryn Falberg. During this same period, the company’s stock has fallen approximately 73 percent compared to the previous year. Its market capitalization has declined by about $60 billion from its peak in late 2024.
The Trade Desk CEO Jeff Green praised Price’s industry track record, saying, “Penry has dedicated his career to serving marketers.” Green added, “Through every major shift this industry has faced, he has delivered for them at scale across some of the world’s largest ad platforms.” He also stated that Price “shares our conviction that technology has to serve the marketer first and that putting marketers first is good business,” and expressed confidence that “TTD now has one of the best boards in ad tech history.”
Price said The Trade Desk “has built the infrastructure that gives marketers real ownership over their advertising.” He also noted, “The open internet is more critical than ever for advertisers as AI reshapes this industry.”
Why It Matters
The Trade Desk’s leadership changes and financial downturn occur amid broader uncertainty in the digital advertising sector, where shifts in data privacy regulations, platform policies, and the emergence of artificial intelligence are reshaping how marketers operate. The company’s efforts to stabilize its position include reinforcing its board with executives who have deep experience in ad technology and platform strategy.
