U.S. — Robinhood publicly launched Robinhood Chain, a layer-2 blockchain network built on Ethereum, in early July 2026. The American financial services company, established in 2013, introduced the network to support both real-world asset tokenization and decentralized applications.
During its first week of operation, Robinhood Chain processed 17 million transactions from nearly 350,000 wallet addresses. Trading volume on the network rose from just over $200,000 on July 1, 2026, to more than $500 million by July 10, 2026, according to data from DefiLlama. The platform also saw nearly 16,000 meme coin launches in a single day during that initial period.
One memecoin, Cash Cat, reached a market capitalization of approximately $150 million on July 10, 2026, on Robinhood Chain, as reported by CoinGecko. The name Cash Cat echoes Robinhood’s original company name—co-founders Vlad Tenev and Baiju Bhatt initially named their startup CashCat before rebranding it Robinhood.
Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood’s senior vice president of crypto, said the company is “laser-focused on one mission: building the most secure, scalable, and seamless foundation for real-world assets.” CEO Vlad Tenev acknowledged the network’s dual focus, stating, “While we’re building Robinhood Chain to be the best chain for RWA [real-world assets]… it works great for memes, too.”
The surge in meme-related activity recalls Robinhood’s earlier crypto history. In the second quarter of 2021, 62% of the company’s crypto revenue came from Dogecoin transactions, highlighting its long-standing user interest in meme-based digital assets. On July 12, 2026, Bitcoin was trading at $62,200.41, providing broader market context during Robinhood Chain’s early days.
Why It Matters
Robinhood Chain represents a strategic expansion into blockchain infrastructure by a major retail trading platform. Its rapid adoption metrics—transaction volume, user wallets, and token launches—suggest significant early engagement, particularly around speculative assets like memecoins. The company’s stated focus on real-world asset tokenization, combined with its historical reliance on meme-driven crypto trading, positions the network at the intersection of institutional ambition and retail enthusiasm.
