WASHINGTON DC — President Donald Trump said he is considering pulling the United States out of NATO. Trump told Britain's Telegraph newspaper he could attempt to terminate American membership in the NATO defense alliance.

"Oh yes, I would say [it's] beyond reconsideration. I was never swayed by NATO. I always knew they were a paper tiger, and (Russian President Vladimir) Putin knows that too, by the way," he said. "I just think it should be automatic. We've been there automatically, including Ukraine. Ukraine wasn't our problem."

Trump's comments come as several NATO allies refused to support military operations. France blocked Israeli planes from flying weapons through its airspace. Italy refused last-minute permission for US bombers to land in Sicily. Spain denied the U.S. use of its bases and airspace for operations in the war against Iran.

The United Kingdom allowed the U.S. to use its bases for operations in the war against Iran, which the UK government says is illegal. He criticized European countries that refused to join the Israel-US war against Iran, specifically the UK and France.

The U.S. and Israel launched a war against Iran. Trump said the U.S. will end its operations in the war against Iran within two to three weeks.

On his Truth Social website, he told governments concerned about fuel prices to "go get your own oil" by force from the Gulf. Trump railed against NATO allies since the U.S. and Israel launched their war against Iran for refusing to join the effort, despite not consulting with them in advance or involving them in planning for its economic and security fallout.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Britain is fully committed to NATO. "NATO is the single most effective military alliance the world has ever seen," Starmer said.

Irish taoiseach Micheál Martin said, "The oil supply shock caused by the US-Israeli attack on Iran was probably the worst ever."
