Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office and released on bail. The allegations include claims that he shared confidential material with Jeffrey Epstein.

Thames Valley police are assessing additional allegations that Jeffrey Epstein sent a woman to the UK in 2010 for a sexual encounter with Mountbatten-Windsor at Royal Lodge. Police entered Royal Lodge on February 20. The lawyer for the woman alleging a 2010 encounter at Royal Lodge has provided a statement to police, although the woman herself has not been interviewed. Reports indicate that she has decided not to pursue a formal criminal complaint due to concerns over privacy and publicity.

Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said, "Our misconduct in public office investigation is ongoing and we are following all reasonable lines of inquiry." He also stated, "In any conversations with potential witnesses, our aim is to explain the scope of misconduct in public office, sensitively discuss any information they have and answer any questions or concerns." Wright added, "We are committed to conducting a thorough and careful investigation into misconduct in public office and will follow all reasonable lines of inquiry, in line with our responsibilities under the Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act."

Mountbatten-Windsor is 66 years old and served as a former UK trade envoy. Thames Valley police appealed for witnesses to contact them regarding alleged sexual misconduct, corruption, fraud, or the sharing of confidential information concerning Mountbatten-Windsor. Officers from the Thames Valley police are expected to speak with Mountbatten-Windsor's former protection officers and have sought case files from the Metropolitan police.

Sky and Amanda Roberts, relatives of Virginia Giuffre, are in contact with Thames Valley police detectives. They stated that UK police officers plan to visit the United States soon. This planned meeting will not be a formal interview as they are not considered direct witnesses to the allegations. Giuffre worked for Jeffrey Epstein and made complaints in July 2015 of trafficking for sexual exploitation by Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. The Metropolitan police interviewed Giuffre in 2015 but did not launch a full investigation, stating at the time that there was no allegation of criminal conduct against any UK-based citizens.

Mountbatten-Windsor stated in a Newsnight interview that he did not remember meeting Virginia Giuffre, though a photograph exists showing him with his arms around her waist when she was 17 years old. He denied her claims. In February 2022, Mountbatten-Windsor agreed to a financial settlement with Giuffre, reported to be between $14 million and $16 million, without any admission of liability. Jeffrey Epstein died in his prison cell in New York in 2019. Royal Lodge, where the alleged 2010 encounter occurred, is the home from which Mountbatten-Windsor was evicted by King Charles earlier this year.
