SAN ANTONIO — A new Sam's Club is scheduled to open in 2027 near U.S. Highway 90 and Loop 1604 in Bexar County's far West Side. This project is part of a retail and healthcare development that includes a Target store and a freestanding emergency room, with completions expected between 2026 and 2027.

Construction is underway for a Target store in the Loop 1604 and Marbach Road area, with its completion anticipated in March 2027. Additionally, a retail project near State Highway 211 and West Grosenbacher Road is expected to be finished by October 2026. A Methodist Blue Skies freestanding emergency room is also scheduled for completion along U.S. Highway 90 in October 2026.

The far West Side of Bexar County experienced a population increase of nearly 21,000 people over the last five years. During the same period, approximately 20,000 new jobs were created in the region. Greater: SATX projects the population in ZIP code 78245 will grow by nearly 9,000 people by 2030.

Fred Layser, a west Bexar County resident, commented on the new retail options. Resident Leonard Jonas also noted the convenience for shoppers. "My wife's a big fan," Jonas said regarding new stores. "She likes Target, so anything closer — anything with less traffic." Jonas further stated, "We're members of Sam's Club." He also noted societal benefits, saying, "The growth has been beneficial, new schools and other things in the areas."
