THESSALONIKI — Greek anti-terrorist police arrested three individuals on July 10, 2026, in connection with a series of firebomb attacks that targeted conservative party politicians. The attacks resulted in one fatality and four injuries.

Predawn bombings occurred in Thessaloniki on July 1, 2026, targeting the homes of members of Greece's governing New Democracy party. A crude bomb constructed with camping gas canisters detonated under the car of parliamentary candidate Afroditi Nestora, which was parked at the entrance of her apartment building.

The explosion killed Nestora's 72-year-old mother. Nestora sustained burns and remains hospitalized, having briefly left the hospital on July 9, 2026, to attend her mother's funeral. Her father and two residents of the building were also injured in the attack. Two other attacks on the same night targeted other New Democracy party members, causing damage but no injuries.

Among those arrested on July 10, 2026, was a 29-year-old man in Thessaloniki, apprehended on suspicion of involvement in the bombing at Nestora's home. A 26-year-old woman was also arrested on the island of Crete, suspected of involvement in the same attack. Police arrested a third man suspected of hiding the other two suspects in his apartment before and after the attack. Authorities stated that the search for others potentially involved in the series of attacks continues.

In June 2024, a police officer suffered injuries during a gasoline bomb attack while guarding the home of a top judge in Athens. In April 2025, a bomb exploded near the offices of Greece's main railway company in a busy central Athens district, causing damage but no injuries; a new extremist group claimed responsibility for the incident. In May 2025, a 38-year-old woman died in Thessaloniki when a bomb she was carrying detonated in her hands; authorities stated she intended to plant it outside a bank. In July 2025, a bomb exploded outside the Thessaloniki home of the president of Greece's association of prison guards, who was unharmed, although two other people sustained minor injuries from shattered glass.
